Ian Ward is a married father of two, who resides with his family in the Royal Bay area of Colwood.

"I believe in honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability. My focus the next four years will be on: Responsible Development, Community Engagement, Fiscal Responsibility, Services and Transportation and Healthcare & Social Programs. It is important to me that Colwood remain a safe, vibrant seaside community, and I will work for YOU to ensure that we grow responsibly together."

Guided by Community

I am guided by you. Specifically, the Official Community Plan developed through extensive local engagement in 2018.

The OCP Vision

Colwood is a spectacular seaside community set apart by its outstanding natural setting and exceptional quality of life.

Development will be focused in town centres at Colwood Corners and Royal Bay, and along the Sooke Road transit corridor. Extra care will be taken in sensitive natural areas.

OCP Goals

  1. Colwood's waterfront is a stewarded, world-class destination for residents and visitors alike.

  2. People and nature are exceptionally well connected in Colwood.

  3. Colwood residents have realistic transportation choices.

  4. Vibrant public spaces in Colwood – including streets – are for public life.

  5. Colwood is home to family-friendly neighbourhoods that provide housing choices.

  6. Colwood is carbon neutral, energy positive, water smart and prepared to adapt to a changing world.

"The OCP provides a framework for Council to guide the development community to achieve what is best for Colwood residents. The onus is on Council to be the leaders and stewards of the Vision for Colwood."

Practical Real-World Experience

Experienced business leader, volunteer, coach and teammate

"It is my goal to leverage my education, experience and community-centric approach to act in a manner that considers the needs of all Colwood stakeholders. I believe that it is the mandate of City Council to outline the vision and the overarching plan (OCP) to developers and the development community, and to work in tandem with them to ensure adherence to the community vision and strategic plan. We also need leadership with an appetite to find innovative and new ways to extract maximum value for the benefit of residents and taxpayers. Collaboration with regional and higher levels of government, private/public partnerships, and new ways of thinking to address such issues as deficient infrastructure, accessibility, physician shortages and traffic/safety."

If elected I will:
  • Support a repeal of the 85% raise in pay for Mayor (and Council) in favour of a balanced, professional review that incorporates all the data.
  • Increase transparency into City dealings with developers, particularly any amendments requested that impact neighbourhoods and contravene the spirit of the OCP
  • Pursue amenity charges and disbursement of monies from new development into neglected areas of Colwood
  • Restore faith in public hearings and public consultation and "open the tent" to citizen engagement and contribution
